Jhumpa Lahiri (1967-) has enjoyed a meteoric rise to literary success, winning the Pulitzer Prize for fiction with her first book, Interpreter of Maladies (1999). Born in London to Bengali parents and moving to Rhode Island at the age of two, Lahiri is intimately acquainted with the experiences of the Indian-Americans about whom she writes. In "This Blessed House," Lahiri deals with issues that frequently appear in her writing: young people who find themselves in troubled marriages or intimate relationships.
