12.4 (p.273) Step-by-step instructions for automatically numbering pages.

HELP: How do I automatically number my pages?

1. Almost all word processors will automatically number pages, but because the commands vary you will have to check the HELP menu or documentation for specifics. Words to look for include "page numbers," "headers," and "footers."

2. Other commands you should look for include the one that controls the position of the page numbers on the pages (and allows you to include running heads with the page numbers) and the one that suppresses page numbers on particular pages (such as the title page and the works cited page).

To insert page numbers in MSWord 2000, go to INSERT on the menu bar, and then click on Page Numbers.

Insert Page Numbers

A text box will appear from which you can select the location of the page numbers on the page, what the numbers should look like, and the numbering system.
