HELP: How do I open documents in separate windows?

If you want to work on more than one document at a time, you can do so by using separate windows.

1. Open a document containing a text you have written. See instructions in Chapter 4 to learn how to open a document.

2. Open another document containing another text.

3. View your documents simultaneously by selecting the WINDOW feature. Go to WINDOW on the menu bar and click on ARRANGE ALL.

Arrange All

The screen will automatically split to show all the open documents. Below is a graphic illustrating two windows with the documents "Combined Prewriting" and "First Draft."

Two Windows

In order to see more of each document, you may want to close the toolbars. To do this, go to the VIEW menu and click on TOOLBAR. Then click on the checked boxes to remove them. To open them again, re-click on the boxes so the check marks reappear.

View Toolbars

The graphic below shows each window without any toolbars. Now much more of each document is visible, so there’s less scrolling to read the text from each document.

3. Arrange your documents on the screen for better viewing. To restore your window to full size, click on the icon that looks like a square in the upper-right hand corner. This will maximize your document.
