4.8 (p.78) Step-by-step instructions for saving your work in a series of drafts.

HELP: How do I save my work in a series of drafts?

1. Each time you begin a new draft, use the SAVE feature and name your drafts in sequence: draft1, draft2, and so on. Then, if you decide that your revisions have not been successful, you can always return to an earlier draft.

2. When working on a draft, do not discard work too hastily by using the CUT function of your word-processing program.

3. Instead, use the COPY and PASTE functions. COPY any information you decide to cut out of your draft. The graphic below illustrates copying a passage from Draft 2.

Then PASTE it at the end of the document so that you can retrieve it later if needed. The graphic below illustrates pasting the passage from Draft 2 into Draft 1.

TIP: Because you may be revising frequently while you write, you need to be certain that you periodically save your work. You can set an AUTOSAVE feature on your word processor that will automatically save at regular intervals.
