5.10 (p.99) Step-by-step instructions for checking sentence structure on a computer.

HELP: How do I check for sentence structure?

1. Scroll up from the end of the documents, reading it backwards sentence by sentence.

2. Use the SEARCH function.

a. Ask the computer to search for each period in the document (begin either at the start or at the end of the document).

Search for Periods

b. Each time you stop at a period look carefully at the group of words that precede it to be sure they form a complete sentence. If you are not sure, see Chapter 30 on sentence structure.

Decide to Replace or Not

c. Use the SEARCH function to review the other punctuation by locating first the commas and then the semicolons. See Chapters 50-56 for advice on punctuation.
