6.4 Information about Using Examples

Examples offer a powerful way to illustrate or support a claim. We are often told to "show, don't tell." Using examples is a great way to show people what you mean when you are trying to explain something or convince them of something. Often, examples are signaled with introductory phrases, like For example, and For instance, placed at the beginning of the sentence. Or, in the middle of a sentence, phrases like such as, like, or similar to can signal the use of an example. Here are some helpful sources about using examples persuasively.
