13.1 History of E-Mail

As a technology, e-mail has a fascinating history. In fact, it is hard to pin down exactly when e-mail began. In the 1920s, a network called telex was already transmitting messages. Then, further advancements in the 1970s began allowing larger mainframes to communicate with each other. Check out the following sites for some interesting discussions of how e-mail came to be.
