Have you ever felt sad or depressed and didn't know why? People's moods, whether they realize it or not, is often affected by the weather. For most people, a warm, sunny day create a positive inner feeling. Some tends to be more optimistic and enthusiastic on sunny days, while others seems to be more productive at work or at home. On the other hand, cloudy days, especially several consecutive days with gray clouds and no sunshine, causes a lot of people to feel somewhat sad or uneasy. Less energy or enthusiasm are common. Some people even reports experiencing a mild state of depression. Since warm, sunny weather occur mainly during the summer months and there is more cloudy days during the winter, these mood changes can be identified with the changing seasons. Of course, not everyone react to changes in the weather in the same way. However, these patterns are so common that they actually has a name: Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. A large group of people living in the same area may experience SAD simultaneously, but probably no one know the cause.
