This informative page offers a look into the Federal Writer's Project, begun early in the Depression years by the Works Progress Administration. This New Deal initiative offered unemployed artists and writers a way to make ends meet. As a Federal Writer, Ellison completed some of the research interviews that would later contribute significantly to Invisible Man. The site contains quite a few great Depression era documentary photographs.
