Susan Glaspell |
|
Glaspell's work has attracted some attention in recent years. In addition to published materials, there is an Oxford University master's thesis by Adam Paul Weisman entitled "Susan Glaspell: A Woman's Modernism." Still, Glaspell studies remains a very limited field. Given the interest shown nowadays in the rediscovery and reassessment of forgotten women writers, she would seem to be due for renewed attention. Her work is very much a product and a reflection of her native Midwest, and she is often concerned to depict the intellectual, social, and emotional maturation of her protagonists. Thus, in addition to the obvious approach of GENDER criticism, much of her work, including of course "Trifles," could benefit from analyses undertaken from the perspectives of SOCIOLOGICAL, HISTORICAL, and PSYCHOLOGICAL criticism.
