General Job Sites
19.2: Online career sites
19.5: More on electronic job hunting
19.6: Keep up with the evolving conventions of electronic résumés
19.8: More job hunting resources visit
These will change quickly, but they are the best places to create personal job search agents. Posting your résumé is not always the best advice—in a bad economy it can make you look desperate, and in a good economy it just puts you in a slush pile. It is better for your privacy and to stay off spam lists to pick and choose the jobs for which you will apply. Keep in mind that just by registering at any of these sites, you are going to get spam. Get an email address just for your job search, and it can also serve as your spam-catcher. Keep your personal email address private.

These sites also have very good employment counseling articles. Very often the advice on the sites is more current than what you might find in many print résumé books.

Note: It isn't a bad idea to create a personal job search agent to watch the openings across the country for you a good year before you go on the job market. It will help you become aware of who is doing the most hiring, which geographic regions are grabbing up people in your field, and most importantly, what qualifications have become the industry standard.
