Editing for Fluency

Fluent sentences are easy to read because of clear connections, variety, and emphasis. Their varied length and word order make them free of choppiness and monotony.

Fluent sentences enhance clarity, allowing readers to see what is important and sort out the relationships.

Fluent sentences enhance conciseness, often replacing several short and repetitious sentences with one longer, more economical sentence.

To write fluently use the following strategies:

  1. Combine related ideas.
  2. Vary sentence construction and length.
  3. Use short sentences for special emphasis.
