Lab Activity 49: Other Punctuation Marks
 
Objective To practice recognizing the correct use of other punctuation marks and using other punctuation marks correctly.

Step 1: Below, use the punctuation mark and word or phrase to write a correct sentence in the space provided. You may refer to Chapter 49.

Example:
Punctuation Mark: Parentheses
Word or Phrase: being on time
Sentence: I take pride in always being on time (well, almost always) everywhere I go.

      Step 3: For each sentence below, select the choice that uses all punctuation marks correctly. If the original sentence is correct, select "No change."

1. Sandra Day O'Connor grew up on a cattle ranch in southeastern Arizona, the ranch was owned by her parents. [Hint]



      2. The nearest neighbors were not close by; they were twenty-five miles away; so the Days were mostly by themselves. [Hint]



      3. Sandra grew up mostly being an only child her younger brother and sister were not born until she was eight but she made friends with the ranch's cowboys. [Hint]



      4. She also had many pets as friends-dogs, cats, horses, and even a bobcat. [Hint]



      5. Her self, reliant personality is partly a result of her growing up on a working ranch in the country. [Hint]

      10. However, she instead enrolled at Stanford Law School, where she served on the Stanford Law Review received membership in the Order of the Coif, a legal honor society and was a classmate of William H. Rehnquist who later became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. [Hint]
