Lab Activity 45: Correcting Misplaced Modifiers
 
 
Objective: To correct misplaced modifiers.

Step 2: For each of the following, choose "OK" if the sentence is correct or "MM" if the sentence has a misplaced modifier.


      1. The skies, growing dark with clouds, seemed ominous. 

 
 


      2. Looking around, we saw no wildlife at all. 

 
 


      3. Chirping, we didn't even hear any birds. 

 
 


      4. Some believe that animals have a kind of sixth sense that tells them danger is coming. 

 
 


      5. We made the basement, deciding to take cover, our safe and cozy place. 

 
 


      6. Not knowing how long we'd have to wait, we entertained ourselves with games and conversation. 

 
 


      7. Equipped with flashlights, a transistor radio, bottled water, and nonperishable snacks, we felt like Boy Scouts. 

 
 


      8. Soon, however, signaling that the tornado was out of range, we heard the "all clear" siren. 

 
 


      9. When we walked outside, we couldn't believe the sight that greeted us. 

 
 


      10. Scattered all over the ground, people tripped over pieces of buildings.
