Lab Activity 20: Adjectives and Adverbs
 
Objective: To practice recognizing and using adjectives and adverbs.

Step 3: For each of the sentences below, select the statement that is correct.

Example:
In 1524, Giovanni da Verrazano became the firstest European to explore the coast of New Jersey, which was already inhabited by Native Americans.

      1. The Englishmanly Henry Hudson sailed for 150 miles up the Hudson River in 1609, and he claimed New Jersey and New York for the Dutch, who sponsored his expedition.  



      2. Dutch settlement of New Jersey began around 1630, but the first permanent town, Bergen, was not established until 1660 due to attacks by Native Americans.  



      3. In 1664, however, English soldiers from colonies along the Atlantic Ocean asserted their control of New Jersey over the Dutch. 



      4. Inspired by the Boston Tea Party, colonists from Greenwich, New Jersey, burned a supply of tea from a British ship in 1774; this protest later became known as the "Greenwich Tea Burning." 



      5. During the Revolutionary War, New Jersey's citizens had highest divided loyalties; some worked for independence while others remained loyal to Britain. 



      6. In fact, one of the war's mostest famous divisions was the split between England's Royal Governor of New Jersey, William Franklin, and his father, the great patriot Benjamin Franklin. 



      7. Because of William Franklin's continued loyalty to England, Benjamin Franklin broke all ties with his son and never communicated with William again.  



      8. Morristown, New Jersey, was the home for George Washington and his troops for two winters. 



      9. Also in New Jersey, Princeton was the nation's capital temporary. 



      10. New Jersey was the third state to ratify the U.S. Constitution, which it did on December 18, 1787.
