Lab Activity 24: Sentence Combining 3
 
Objective: To practice combining sentences using adverbs, other verb forms, and series.

Step 3: For each of the groups of sentences below, select the choice that correctly combines the sentences using an adverb, another verb form, or a series.


      1. Levi's are symbolic of America.
Levi's represent equality.
Nearly everyone can afford to wear them, and many people do. 



      2. Everywhere you look, you see people lounging in Levi's.
People are dressing up in Levi's.
People are even sleeping in Levi's. 



      3. That is the reason this is particularly sad.
We don't like to learn this.
Levi's are no longer manufactured in the U.S. 



      4. It is distressing.
Levi Strauss & Co. has closed the last two of its U.S. factories.  



      5. The company needed something.
It needed to reduce its costs.
That is why Levi's are now being manufactured outside of the U.S. 



      6. However, the company will still design in the U.S.
The company will also market in the U.S.
The company will also be headquartered in the U.S. 



      7. All told, more than 3.5 billion pairs of riveted jeans had been produced in U.S. factories.
The jeans were red-tagged.
The jeans were long-wearing.

Levi Strauss's revenues have dropped from $7.1 billion in 1996 to $4.1 billion in 2002.
The revenues are continuing to go down.  



      9. To some people, though, Levi's will always represent someone who is blue-collar.
They'll also represent someone who is working-class.
They'll also represent someone who is true-blue American. 



      10. There are many types of jeans now available.
Levi's will be something special to generations of Americans.
They will continue to think of Levi's.
