Lab Activity 27: Commas
 
Objective: To practice recognizing the correct use of commas and using commas correctly.

Step 3: For each of the word groups below, select the choice that uses commas correctly. If the original word group is correct as it is, select "no change."


      1. One way to tell that hats are important to people, and most will acknowledge that they are important, is that many common expressions about hats have become part of our everyday language. 



      2. When my roommate Michelle heard I won the school golf tournament, she said "Jenna, hats off to you!" 



      3. I soon joined the varsity golf team; and I told Michelle that I just threw my hat in the ring.  



      4. However I told her to keep it under her hat because I didn't want everyone to make a big fuss over me.  



      5. She was still so excited that I tried to calm her down; I said! "Michelle, hold onto your hat."  



      6. The first time I ever played golf was August 18, 1994, and it was a Thursday. 



      7. When Uncle Freddie said I had real promise at driving chipping and putting, I felt that was nonsense, so I told him he was talking through his hat. 



      8. Uncle Freddie encouraged me to enter golf competitions but I told him he was as mad as a hatter.  



      9. Now, even my varsity teammates are telling me that winning the school golf tournament is a real feather in my cap; there being so many excellent golfers here. 



      10. Yesterday: Michelle told me, "Jenna, if you don't become the team's very best player, I'll eat my hat!"
