About the Lecturer:
Sylvan Barnet was born in Brooklyn, New York, and did his undergraduate work at New York University. He completed his master's and doctoral work at Harvard. He taught at Tufts University, where at various times he served as chair of the Department of English and as head of the composition program. His publications include scholarly books concerned with Shakespeare as well as a host of successful textbooks including Literature for Composition, available in full and compact editions (with William Burto and William Cain), Introduction to Literature (with William Burto and William Cain), Short Guide to Writing about Literature, The Little Brown Reader (with Marcia Stubbs and William Cain ), Short Guide to College Writing (with Marcia Stubbs and Pat Bellanca), and Short Guide to Writing about Art. Barnet lives in Cambridge, MA.
