Appositives

An appositive is a word or phrase that renames, explains, or identifies a noun or pronoun. You can achieve sentence variety by using appositives to combine short, choppy sentences. Note how these sentences were revised, using appositives.

Kim is my cousin. She is a great soccer player.
My cousin Kim is a great soccer player.

Mrs. Sanchez has a huge garden. She is our neighbor across the street.
Mrs. Sanchez, our neighbor across the street, has a huge garden.
