Quotation Marks in Special Cases

Use quotation marks to cite titles of short works. These include titles of songs, essays, articles from magazines or newspapers, TV episodes, chapters of books, and short stories or poems. Consider these examples:

“The Mending Wall”
“Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”
“America the Beautiful”
“Another Brick in the Wall,” by Pink Floyd

Use italics or underlining for longer works such as books, magazines, and movie titles.

Bellefleur, by Joyce Carol Oates
Time magazine
Newsweek magazine
Star Wars

Use quotation marks when using a word for emphasis, as in the following example:

The concept of “love” has many interpretations.
