

It can be argued that it is unethical to commit fallacies of logic, i.e. bad logic hurts people. Consider the 'double standard' where it is fallaciously presumed that one party deserves different (usually inferior) treatment than the other. Consider the 'red herring' where the arguer diverts the attention of the listener by going off on extraneous, irrelevant issues and then concludes that s/he has established the initial point of contention. Consider the 'hasty generalization' where a conclusion is drawn about all the members of a group from a sample that is not representative of the whole. There are many others. Broadly classified, informal fallacies include fallacies of relevance, weak induction, ambiguity, presumption, and grammatical analogy.
