

Philosophical texts are not all the same and any argument should also persuade. A mere string of reasons is not in itself very persuasive. However, one person's eloquence is another's obscurity; one person's careful attention to detail is another's mind numbing catalogue of minute distinctions. There is something to please and pester everyone in philosophical prose. There are straightforward arguments, there are dialogues and there are thought experiments (to name a few general techniques). We've already considered more straightforward arguments. Let us now briefly consider a few other techniques.
