Chapter Summary

This chapter focuses on the use of critical reading and thinking skills when reading information on the Internet. The five basic types of Web sites are discussed along with suggestions for evaluating their structure. Also, tips are provided for locating reliable Web sites. In addition to these tips, instruction and exercises are provided for evaluating the content and accuracy of Web sites as well as suggestions and exercises for evaluating their timeliness and purpose. URLs are given with each exercise; some of the main pages of these sites identified for practice are printed in this chapter of the Efficient and Flexible Reading textbook.
