Chapter Summary

Reading Actively

     How can you become an active, successful reader? Active readers become involved with the material they are reading by thinking, questioning, challenging, and criticizing the author's ideas. This chapter provides strategies to help you develop active reading habits. These strategies include having a positive attitude, creating a workable study environment, and concentrating while reading and studying. Strategies such as previewing, asking guide questions, and changing habits are also discussed.

     This chapter also includes explanations, examples, and practice exercises for developing the above-mentioned strategies that lead to active reading.
