|
Keeping Track of Information
Why keep track of information? If you organize the information that you are learning in a systematic way, you will be able to find and remember this information when you need it. In this chapter you will learn five ways to keep track of information: highlighting, marking, outlining, mapping, and summarizing. Procedures for using these techniques are given along with examples and practice exercises.
Mapping is a visual method for organizing information and involves drawing diagrams to display the main ideas and supporting details. Suggestions for several different mapping techniques are given. These include time lines, process maps, Web maps, and organization charts. Additional exercises are provided for recognizing transitions that introduce main points.
