What are context clues? Often times you can tell the meaning of an unknown word from reading a sentence or paragraph. The sentence or paragraph is called the context and the clues it provides are called "context clues." In this chapter you will learn four types of context clues: definition, example, contrast and inference. Examples of these context clues are demonstrated and methods for applying them to your textbook reading are provided.
