Most textbooks, technical and others types, contain graphic illustrations. In addition to textbooks, academic information is marketed in electronic forms. In this chapter you will learn how to interpret graphic information and use electronic information. Six types of graphics are discussed along with suggestions for using them. They include (1) tables, (2) graphs, (3) charts, (4) diagrams, (5) maps, and (6) photographs. Suggestions are also provided for studying from electronic learning aids such as CD-ROMs that accompany textbooks and computer tutorials. Finally, the use of e-mail, Web sites, and newsgroups are looked at as learning tools. Examples, exercises and mastery tests will give you the opportunity to study and apply the strategies presented in this chapter for reading graphic and electronic information.
