Welcome to the Companion Website to accompany Writing with Confidence and Composing with Confidence. This site contains useful information on topics covered in both books. The student section is organized by topic; you can access a topic by clicking on the pull-down menu at the top of the screen. All of the material on the site correlates to the material in your book, so you should refer to your textbook frequently for additional exercises and examples that will help you understand the concepts more completely.

Please pay particular attention to topics 1 and 2 in this section. Topic 1 explains why we write and has exercises designed to help you understand the philosophies behind writing courses and writing texts. Topic 2 deals with the specifics of the writing process itself, how to use the process most effectively to take advantage of how you write now, and how to improve your writing.

As you prepare to meet the requirements of your particular course and/or writing assignments, please read and complete the activities in topics 3 and 4. These topics discuss what goes into a good paragraph and a good essay, and they should provide you with a solid foundation for any type of writing. Also, please note that there are topics on specific types of writing like narration, description, process analysis, and others.

When using the sections devoted to grammar and mechanics, please begin with the topic “Parts of Speech” so that you can review the terminology and determine your familiarity with subjects, verbs, objects, and other grammatical concepts. The exercises in the grammar sections are designed to give you useful feedback on your understanding of the concepts presented in your book.

Finally, each topic contains a group of links to other helpful Web sites. The authors are committed to keeping these links updated and accessible, so you should not have any difficulty accessing them.
