Summary

This section is divided into modules that will help you understand the concepts presented in the book, including the principles of grammar and mechanics. You will learn that you CAN improve as a writer no matter what success you have had in the past, how the writing process works for you, and the reasons why people write. Our goal is to help you build your confidence as a writer.

You will learn the six steps to writing with more confidence: exploring ideas, prewriting, organizing, writing a first draft, revising the draft, and producing a final copy.

When you explore ideas for a topic to write about, remember to limit your topic based on your answers to three questions: what is your subject, your purpose, and your audience?

Also remember to find a topic that is either debatable or that presents new information. Writing about something most people already know about or agree with can bore your reader as well as yourself.
