Argumentation-Persuasion
Chapter Objectives

Argumentation in writing is very different from the heated verbal sparring that we are all familiar with. Using clear thinking and logic, the writer tries to convice the reader of the soundness of a particular opinion. If, while trying to convince the reader, the writer uses emotional language and dramatic appeals, then the writing is called persuasion.

In chapter 11, we consider the techniques for combining logical reasoning and emotional appeal in the successful argumentation-persuasion essay, which, unlike most forms of writing, assumes a controversy and addresses opposing viewpoints.
