Chapter Objectives

In chapters 1-11, you’ve studied the patterns of development – writing, process analysis, definition, and so on. You’ve practiced using these patterns as strategies for generating, developing, and organizing essay ideas. You’ve also discovered that most types of writing combine two or more patterns. Chapter 12 provides additional information about these patterns in action during the writing process and provides the opportunity to focus on the ways in which 3 writers, whose styles and subjects differ sharply, combines patterns in their essays.
