Chapter Summary

Chapter 8 explores the all-important communication between scientists and the general public. Following a discussion of the reasons for and nature of communicating with the public, this chapter focuses on techniques for reshaping science for non-expert audiences, including specific uses of narration, example, definition, metaphor, and graphics. This chapter also touches on the role of the World Wide Web in scientific communication with the public.
