Chapter Objectives

This chapter focuses on the process of writing—a series of tasks that are repeated until you have created a finished work.

Writing begins with planning, in which you clarify what you’re writing about and for whom you’re writing. Once you’ve done this, you can begin to collect ideas, develop them in a draft, revise the draft, and edit your work. These four steps—planning, writing, revising, and editing—are repeated until you have crafted a developed, coherent, and purposeful piece.
