Writing and Evaluating Arguments
Objectives
|
In this chapter, you will learn to use the Toulmin model of argument. Furthermore, because arguments are not exactly the same in every discipline, you will learn about how the forms of arguments, and what counts for evidence within an argument, vary within the disciplines. The central focus of this chapter, however, is on the three basic elements of all arguments: claim, support, and reasoning. You will analyze your own arguments and the arguments of other writers to enhance your own skills in argument as well as to prepare yourself for writing in the various disciplines.
