You will learn in this chapter how to identify comma splices and fused sentences, and then how to avoid using them in formal written English. You will also review the five acceptable ways of indicating sentence boundaries. You will learn why writers inadvertently create comma splices and fused sentences, and then how to recognize and correct these errors. You will practice these skills by working on these errors as they turn up in sentences and paragraphs.
