Because unclear pronoun reference is a common problem among student writers, this chapter will help you learn how to recognize such errors and then learn how to make pronoun reference as clear as possible. Although such errors do not always cause confusion in casual, spoken English, you must learn to use clear pronoun reference in formal written English. You will be given the opportunity to learn the correct use of “it” as an expletive or as a pronoun, and the correct uses of “who,” “which,” and “that.”
