Placement of modifiers in academic writing is a very important skill for student writers to learn. In this chapter, you will learn to identify misplaced modifiers—including squinting modifiers and modifiers that split an infinitive—and dangling modifiers. Then you will learn how to avoid or correct these problems. Exercises will give you many opportunities to practice the correction or improvement of sentences with misplaced or dangling modifiers.
