Writers must make choices that further the purposes of their writing and communicate clearly with the reader. In this chapter, you will learn a number of strategies to help you make good choices in the revision process. You will learn to identify and avoid wordiness and unnecessary repetition, and to choose strong verbs and direct statements wherever possible. In the examples and exercises, you will learn to revise and improve sentences, paragraphs, and rough drafts of papers.
