Maintaining Sentence Parallelism
Objectives

Like Chapter 17, this chapter focuses on stylistic revisions. You will review or learn the elements of parallel structure— of words, phrases, and clauses— and learn how to make parallelism support the larger purposes of your writing. You will work with many examples and exercises in order to learn how to revise structures that could be improved by parallelism. You will also learn the advantages of using parallel structures in the larger units of paragraph and essay, in order to emphasize similarities and differences and thus support the controlling idea of your text.
