Building Emphasis with Coordination and...
Objectives
|
You will learn in this chapter how to select certain aspects of your writing for special emphasis by using the techniques of coordination and subordination. Coordinate structures are used to emphasize the equality of ideas, conjunctive adverbs to show a logically balanced emphasis, and subordination to link and to indicate relationships between sentences. You will also learn to use punctuation, repetition, and special sentences to achieve emphasis. By means of examples and exercises, you will have many opportunities to practice these various techniques. You will learn here, as elsewhere, how to revise effectively, beyond the mere correction of errors.
