In this chapter you will learn the many and varied uses of capitals and italics. Among other uses, capitals serve to mark the beginnings of sentences, to identify proper nouns, and to signal certain abbreviations and acronyms. Italics receive a similarly thorough treatment, with a warning to students not to employ italics for emphasis too often. You will be given many exercises for practice in these areas.
