Writing the Research Paper
Objectives
|
After they have spent a great deal of time and energy gathering materials for a research paper, students are often overwhelmed with the volume and variety of materials they have gathered. In this chapter, you will learn how to return to the original research question in order to begin to make progress again. You are also reminded of the need to revise or alter the thesis, depending on the results of your research. Then you are guided through the various steps of finishing the task: ordering the notecards, composing a rough draft, and reconsidering the outline or shape of the paper for maximum effect before moving on to the final draft. You will have the opportunity to study a complete (and heavily annotated) student research paper in order to consider your own research project more clearly.
