Part IV: Personal Relationships: Men and Women |
|
The bonds that form between human beings, both between and within gender groups, can be extremely passionate. That passion takes many forms. In its most positive incarnations, love and friendship can develop. But when passion takes the form of hatred and oppression, the results for individuals and cultures can be horrifying.
This section of The Conscious Reader explores many moments of passion: the friendship and support that develops between two men who are HIV-positive; issues of human and civil rights surrounding gender relations; expressions of dysfunctional and abusive relationships; explorations of the sometimes volatile male psyche; and narratives about the quirky and unpredictable course of love. The written accounts of those relationships included in this section of The Conscious Reader range from the deadly serious to the humorous and satirical.
The selections in this section show the variety of human relationships that can arise from the interaction among the sexes and its record in diverse forms of writing. You will find many, many topics to write about as you consider these experiences in light of your own.
