Chapter 8 |
|
What is your reading rate? How fast should you read? How can you increase your reading speed? In this chapter suggestions for managing and increasing reading speed are provided along with timed readings for assessing rate and comprehension. A series of visual discrimination and speed of comprehension exercises follow suggestions for monitoring regressions, vocalization, subvocalization, and fixations. Other speed-reading techniques such as reading in thought groups, using pacers, setting time goals, previewing before reading, and adjusting flexibility are discussed.
Three timed readings from business, psychology, and history are included for practice in reading longer articles. An added feature in the Everyday Reading Skills section provides support on how to manage workplace reading.
