Chapter 9 |
|
In this chapter "good thinking" is defined in terms of logical reasoning strategies that lead to academic success. Strategy instruction and exercises for developing logical problem solving skills and analytical reasoning skills in textbooks are included. An individual time orientation survey is included along with scoring procedures, and instructions for analyzing/interpreting the scores.
Analytical reasoning, vocabulary, and process reading (before, during, and after reading) exercises accompany three readings in the areas of science, political science, and business with additional topic-related Internet activities. An added feature in the Everyday Reading Skills section includes information on reading direct mail advertisements.
The Reading Casebook section includes readings on the theme of "intelligence" from English, psychology and sociology. Comprehension and "Thinking and Writing" questions follow each selection.
